Places on Earth that inspired the creators of Avatar

No need to travel to Pandora..you can see similar places even here on Earth

1. The fluorescent Gulf, Puerto Rico

More than 160.000 dinoflagellates microorganisms/liter are present in these waters.

2. Angel Waterfall, Venezuela

Pretty similar to the place where Jake Skully and Neytiri try to catch a dragon-bird

3. Roraiama Mountain, Venezuela

This mountain’s height, makes it so that it is surrounded of clouds, making it look like a floating piece of land

4.”Alien” plants in Yemen

any of the glowing plants in Avatar were inspired by these strange shaped plants

5. Paradise’s Bird

Dragon-bird’s look-alike from New Guinea

6. Aurora Borealis

A phenomenon that is quite common on the North Pole

7. Havasupai Waterfall

One of the most photographed waterfalls ( understandable why)

8. The phosphorescent caves from New Zealand and Australia

Who would think a simple worm can do that do a cave? Yes that is Arachnocampa or the glowing worm.

9. The Cliffs from Hunan, China

Some parts of the movie were actually filmed here. And not it’s not a set .. it’s all real

10. Root Bridges in India

Strangely enough, some of these bridges are 500 years old and can sustain up to 50 people.  The bridges were created by weaving the roots of the trees.
